Upcoming Election

Every Tuesday morning at 7AM we gather to pray as a community in Doak Walker Plaza.

This week we're praying over the upcoming election. Here are this week's prayer points:

1. Pray for discernment among voters.

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
— Colossians 1:9
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
— Ephesians 6:12

2. Pray that God would bless and use our future president to bring about his will.

He is sovereign and in control over everything, including those in government positions of authority. May this truth guide our hearts and cast out any fear of a mere human. Affirm and proclaim these promises:

The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.
— Proverbs 21:1
For kingship belongs to the Lord,
and he rules over the nations.
— Psalm 22:28
He changes times and seasons;
he removes kings and sets up kings;
he gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to those who have understanding;
— Daniel 2:21

3. Pray for a peaceful transition period.

and he will be the stability of your times,
abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge;
the fear of the Lord is Zion’s treasure.
— Isaiah 33:6
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
— 1 Timothy 2:1-2

4. Pray for an overflow of righteousness and the extermination of corruption.

Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
— Isaiah 60:1
if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
— 2 Chronicles 7:14
